Nothing shapes your experience working with RMB more than the people who make our work possible every day. The Meet RMB series offers a chance to get to know our team a little better.
RMB: Can you give us an overview of your role at RMB?
Jim Lundgren: I’m a vice president and information technology and operations specialist. I support the implementation of RMB’s proprietary asset investment systems platform, which involves working with platforms such as Alchemy, Catalyst, Nexus, Alphacuity, and more. I’m also a member of RMB’s Wellness Committee and our Conscious Leadership Group.
RMB: What does a typical workday look like in your role?
JL: For me, a typical workday starts with monitoring investment platforms to ensure all applications are running normally, reviewing overnight data feeds and calculation processes for errors or failures, and troubleshooting as needed. Then I coordinate with our equity team on priorities and objectives for the day. A large part of my work is designing and developing enhancements to applications, testing new features to prepare for product releases, and publishing system enhancements.
RMB: Tell us about the education and career path that brought you here.
JL: I studied computer science and earned a degree in business administration at Northern Illinois University. My initial professional focus was coding within Oracle’s database systems, but I’ve held various technology consultant positions over the years. I began as an independent consultant with IronBridge Capital Management in 2006, developing what is now RMB’s proprietary investment systems platform, and became an IronBridge employee in 2009, until they merged with RMB in 2017.
RMB: What keeps you busy outside of work?
JL: I’ve been happily married to my wife Lisa for 30 years, and together we enjoy spending time with our three children and grandchildren. We frequently travel to the Gulf Coast of Florida and are involved in our local Catholic parish. I recently purchased an e-bike and have liked riding local trails and exploring nearby towns. I also have an interest in bourbon and often tour distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
RMB: Is there something that you’re especially passionate about in life?
JL: Beyond my family and work, technology! I have always fancied the software development process and could not imagine doing anything else as a career. Working through problems, finding solutions, and building tangible applications are all very satisfying to me.
RMB: What makes you most proud to work at RMB?
JL: I’m most proud to work at RMB because of our firm’s commitment to building relationships. I believe that RMB’s management has a very sincere desire to create a culture that positively impacts the lives of our clients and employees. Having spent a large portion of my career helping to develop a world-class software platform that differentiates RMB from other organizations, I appreciate that RMB values my personal contribution and my ability to help serve our clients’ needs.
