Nothing shapes your experience working with Curi RMB Capital more than the people who make our work possible every day. The Meet Curi RMB Capital series offers a chance to get to know our team a little better.

Curi RMB: Can you give us an overview of your role at Curi RMB Capital?

Ryan Kennedy: I’m a partner and portfolio manager, based out of Curi RMB Capital’s Chicago office. I’m part of the asset allocation and manager selection team, and am responsible for the firm’s private equity, real estate, and liquid real assets portfolios. My job is to find attractive investments and work these ideas through our diligence process to separate fact from fiction. I also help manage risk across our investment portfolios and communicate results to our clients.

Curi RMB: What does a typical workday look like in your role?

RK: My day typically starts with checking in on the markets, scanning the Wall Street Journal, and catching up on emails that came in overnight. Then I prepare for meetings and calls that day. As a team, we see a ton of investment opportunities, so my biggest priority is to keep all our diligence projects moving forward. In addition to new investment meetings, we’ll also check in on our existing partners to stay up on their portfolios and what they are seeing in the markets.

Curi RMB: Tell us about the education and career path that brought you here.

RK: I studied finance and political science at Santa Clara University. After graduating, I worked for Morgan Stanley in their Private Wealth Management division. The team I supported was one of the largest wealth management practices in the country, so it was a great initial exposure to the industry. I wanted to focus on investments, so I went to business school at Notre Dame and got my Chartered Financial Analyst® certification. After business school, I worked for the Townsend Group, an institutional investment manager that is now part of Aon, and Northern Trust before joining RMB in 2016.

Curi RMB: What keeps you busy outside of work?

RK: My wife and I both work and have three young kids, so our time is pretty much spoken for! During the spring and summer, I help coach my son’s baseball team, which has been a great experience. Sports were a big part of my life as a kid, including learning how to be part of a team, how to be a gracious winner, and how to use a loss as motivation for the next game. It’s been a special experience helping pass that on to my kids.

Curi RMB: Is there something that you’re especially passionate about in life?

RK: I absolutely love music! I’ve lived all over the country and picked up some wide-ranging tastes, from electronic to bluegrass and a lot in between. My favorite thing to do is see new artists in new venues. Next on my list is the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington State. I can’t wait to get there one day.

Curi RMB: What makes you most proud to work at Curi RMB Capital?

RK: RMB was founded in 2005, but it’s still entrepreneurial. The team here has let me utilize a lot of the skills I’ve picked up in my career up to this point, from investment research and analysis to interacting with clients, which has been super rewarding.
