This month, we sat down with Shannon Brown, Investment Operations Analyst, to discuss her transition to the Curi Capital team following the KDI acquisition, the evolution of her education and career, and where she finds joy outside of work.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE WITH CURI CAPITAL AND WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN LIKE SO FAR?
As Investment Operations Analyst, my role with Curi Capital is a mix between client services and operations. I am involved with all aspects of the client experience, including trading, servicing client accounts, and analyzing client reports.
I joined the Curi Capital team following the acquisition of KDI at the end of 2021 and have found an amazing company culture. It has been great working with my coworkers and taking advantage of opportunities that allow me to continue to grow professionally.
WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR CAREER?
I’ve always had a love for mathematics and analytics, so pursuing a career with a mathematical foundation always seemed like a natural fit for me. I had some experience working in accounting before joining KDI, where I had my first practice working in the finance and investment field.
The knowledge and skillset I gained from my 20 years at KDI, combined with the encouragement from my team inspired me to learn more about the industry and further my education.
WHAT SETS CURI CAPITAL APART FROM OTHER FIRMS?
I think the teamwork and top-notch depth of service we provide to our clients, sets Curi Capital apart from other firms. It is so nice to work for a firm with a collective plan and vision, with the entire team aligned. Everyone is more than willing to go above and beyond, not only for our clients, but also for each other.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR CAREER THUS FAR?
My most memorable experience in my career thus far was earning my master’s degree while still working full-time. It made me realize that anything is possible if you are willing to put in the time and effort.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE?
My husband and I took a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska that was an eye-opening experience for us. We were both born and raised in North Carolina, so we enjoyed spending time in an environment that provided us with so many opportunities for growth.
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN YOUR LIFE ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
Without a doubt, my family is the greatest accomplishment of my life. My husband Tim and I have four amazing children and one beautiful granddaughter.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INTERESTS OR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
My husband and I enjoy traveling to the beach and the mountains. We are also very competitive people, so we love going bowling, shooting pool, and playing any type of board game.
