At Curi Capital, it’s our mission to help clients build true wealth, however they define it. Our team brings the knowledge, experience, and passion to help clients meet their goals through a wide range of financial services and solutions—and we’d love for you to meet them.
Each month, we will engage a different member of the Curi Capital team to learn more about their experiences, their insights, and their perspectives, while providing an opportunity for you to get to know them on a more personal level.
This month, we sat down with Margaret Hart, an Associate Advisor, to discuss her experience working closely with the firm’s advisors, the evolution of her career, and where she finds joy outside of work.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE WITH CURI CAPITAL AND WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN LIKE SO FAR?
As an Associate Advisor, I do a vast amount of work alongside the Advisors/Certified Financial Planners on our team. I’ve often compared the associate and advisor relationship to that of a nurse and doctor. The tasks I perform help advisors carry out the work they do with their clients.
Similar to a nurse, I’m highly skilled in my role, following the same ethical and fiduciary responsibilities to our clients that an advisor does. Associates hold many licenses and degrees that entail a great deal of education and experience as requirements continually change.
WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR CAREER?
Throughout my childhood, I envisioned becoming a teacher. However, as a young adult, feeling uncertain of the right path for me, I was offered a position in the financial industry that would also provide tuition reimbursement. I decided to take a leap of faith and take that opportunity, which ultimately, launched my career in the financial services industry. I’m looking forward to also continuing my education next year as I’ve been accepted to North Carolina State University’s Jenkins MBA program.
WHAT DID YOU DO IN YOUR CAREER BEFORE JOINING THE CURI CAPITAL TEAM?
I’ve held various positions over the years, from operations to branch administrator, as well as supporting roles with wealth advisors and their clientele. Previously living in New York, I’ve worked for companies such as Chase Manhattan, UBS, RBC Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley, and Dean Witter Reynolds in the original World Trade Center. I moved to North Carolina and joined Curi Capital in the first half of 2021.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FIRM?
I believe in the vision that our CEO, Dimitri Eliopoulos, has for Curi Capital and in being a key player in that journey. Having worked for many advisors in the past, and sitting in on hundreds of meetings, I can honestly say that our firm and advisors work diligently to keep their client’s best interest as their top priority and obligation. The work that we are doing is a passion project for the members of our wonderful team, and it makes all the difference. I look forward to seeing our team’s continued growth and to seeing more people become part of our firm’s vision.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR CAREER THUS FAR?
Although I’d love to share a positive story as my most memorable moment, that’s not always the case. Being denied opportunities and experiences shaped me early on in my career. Dealing with rejection and overcoming difficulties drove me forward. I refused to settle and accept the lesser option, which inspired me to continue my education, regardless of my age and even while being a mom with a family to take care of. I’m always striving to be a role model for my children.
On the other hand, I’ll never forget one of my clients in New York crying when she found out I was moving to North Carolina. Many former clients have also mailed thank you cards or sent messages to check in since my move. Making lifelong connections and knowing that I played a part in bettering someone’s life is very rewarding.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE? HOW DID IT SHAPE YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL?
Raising my three children and the memories we’ve created are among the most memorable and continue to be as they grow up to be adults. In addition, my close relationship with my parents and being able to be by my mother’s side during her last month’s battling pancreatic cancer. Every day is a gift, and we often overlook that, taking time with loved ones for granted.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INTERESTS OR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I’m an active volunteer at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina in the community garden where fresh, organic produce is being grown for the community. I love spending any downtime reading, and as a newer North Carolina resident, I’m beginning to hike the many N.C. parks. I’m also a Registered Yoga Teacher and enjoy the practice of yoga.
