At Curi Capital, it’s our mission to help clients build true wealth, however they define it. Our team brings the knowledge, experience, and passion to help clients meet their goals through a wide range of financial services and solutions—and we’d love for you to meet them.
This month, we sat down with Katie Strother, Wealth Advisor, to discuss her transition to the Curi Capital team following the Park Ridge Asset Management (PRAM) acquisition, the inspiration behind her career in wealth management, and where she finds joy outside of work.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE WITH CURI CAPITAL AND WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN LIKE SO FAR?
As a Wealth Advisor, I focus mainly on financial planning, while also co-advising other advisors on our team. I’ll help them update financial plans, create new plans, and work with existing clients on service-based inquiries. One of my personal goals is to continue supporting our strong client relationships.
What I’ve appreciated the most following the acquisition of Park Ridge Asset Management, is the ability to work with a larger team and the expanded resources it brings. I’ve enjoyed the collaboration, the feedback from others working on similar projects, and the additional technologies available to us.
WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR CAREER?
I took a personal finance class in college through the honors program at Liberty University. The professor teaching the class was the head of the Financial Planning concentration—a registered program under the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards Inc., allowing you the educational requirements to sit for the CFP® Exam upon graduation. Within a week or two of starting his class I had changed my major and joined the program.
The intersection of the analytical side and the personal, relationship-building side really appealed to me. In my day to day, I get a good split between working with numbers and direct client interaction. That professor is the reason I do what I do. He even connected me to the role I had at PRAM, where I served as an Investment Associate for 7 years.
WHAT SETS CURI CAPITAL APART FROM OTHER FIRMS?
There is a constant focus on teamwork and collaboration, which has created a very encouraging environment. This wasn’t just an idea thrown around during onboarding, it has continued to be woven into daily interactions with anyone on the team, at any level. There is a clear, joint passion for serving our clients in a meaningful way.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR CAREER THUS FAR?
In my career, passing the CFP® exam was an extremely memorable experience. From the amount of time and effort put into studying and having taken the exam at a point when I didn’t have tons of “real world” experience in the industry—it was very exciting. That accomplishment gave me assurance that I was on the right path in financial planning.
WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE?
The most memorable experience in my life to date has been becoming a mother to my 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. It has taught me so much about sacrifice, grace, patience, and selflessness: all qualities you think you have until you become a parent. My daughter began Kindergarten this year, which has been a very exciting milestone to watch.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INTERESTS OR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of work you can find me drinking coffee, going to the gym—I really love Pilates, reading WWII historical fiction books, relaxing at home, or going on adventures with my husband and kids.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WANTING TO GET STARTED IN THIS INDUSTRY?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Hopefully you’ll find yourself in a position or environment where asking questions is encouraged. The willingness to learn and adapt will take you far.
